    Dubai is well-known for always looking towards the future, but a new museum in the Emirate will give visitors a deeper look into the UAE’s past. Opening to the public January 7, 2017, the museum chronicles the era before the country’s founding, the agreement signing and subsequent declaration of the Union in 1971. The museum will also provide insight and understanding of the UAE constitution, and the rights and responsibilities of Emirati citizens. The building design was inspired by the shape of a manuscript, with seven columns symbolising the pens used to sign the Union agreement.   As part of the museum initiative, the original Union House where leaders signed the treaty establishing the country was restored, and the famous flagpole at the end of 2nd of December Street was replaced with a slightly taller 123m pole. The museum complex covers 2.5 hectares.   The museum was inaugurated on December 2, 2016 during the UAE’s 45th National Day, and is currently open to senior officials and VIP delegations until its official opening.

    At last, one of the longest-running shows in West End and Broadway history, CATS, is coming to Dubai. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical has enchanted over 73 million people in more than 300 cities around the world, and now you can be in the audience for the production’s Dubai debut. 

    Adapted from ‘Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats’ by TS Eliot, the musical tells the story of the Jellicle Cats and the adventures they face while assembling for the Jellicle Ball. The performance features an award-winning musical score, including the song ‘Memory.’ The story comes alive through enchanting set designs, fantastic costumes and impressive choreography. The show has been honoured with 2 Grammy and 7 Tony awards, and is sure to be a highlight of Dubai’s 2017 opera line-up.

Dubai’s 70.3 Ironman race will begin next to the iconic Burj Al Arab hotel, with athletes completing the swimming portion at Jumeirah public beach. The race will conclude back at Jumeirah beach, where three laps around the 7km running trail will end at the general grand stand.     The Omega Dubai Desert Classic is a PGA European Tour sanctioned event featuring a $2.5 million prize pool. It is held early every year at the Emirates Golf Club's Majlis Course, and it is promoted and organised by the umbrella organisation Golf in Dubai. The Omega Dubai Desert Classic attracts some of the biggest names in golf. Tiger Woods has featured at the event six times since 2001 and has won it twice. However, the most successful golfer at this event has been Ernie Els who has played in 12 different years and has won the competition three times.     The story of Dubai is set to unfold in real time with the opening of Saruq Al Hadid, a newly opened museum in Dubai's historical district, which displays a stunning range of artefacts unearthed from a new archeological dig at Saruq Al Hadid. The archeological site was discovered by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum while flying his helicopter, as he noticed that some dunes were a darker colour than others. 

    This newly-opened museum takes you through the mysterious route of archaeological discoveries and presents exciting treasures of long ago. You can take a leisurely walk among relics, dramatic displays of gold, bronze and iron and an impressive haul of over 900 objects discovered from the site. Keep your eye out for the stunning swords, enchanting arrow heads exhibitions and interactive video exhibitions. Young visitors can get hands-on with culture and reconstruct a pot, assemble an animal skeleton, or even help the experts solve a mystery. 

    Explore the theories that surround the ancient trade maps at one of Dubai's most fascinating museums. Hopefully the mysteries will unfold with the excavation of the site - how did the civilisation end? When was the last time they were in fact there?
